I think I can guess the key to the colors, but can you add your source so I can be sure to properly cite it? I am guessing deep purple Roman Catholic, lavender Protestant, pink Eastern Orthodox, Light green Sunni Islam, dark green Shia Islam, orange Hindu, red is probably Buddhist but also several others like Daoist and Confucian and Shinto. What is the odd green of (I guess) the United Arab Emirates? Thank you.
You’re correct on all counts. The different shade of green in Oman as well as parts of Syria and Lebanon is actually just a slot for “other” Muslim sects like Ibadi, Alevi, and Alawite groups. As far as using this image for citations I used different sources for each country/region so it might be difficult to use this image alone in a citation. If you need country specific citations I can help.
I’d like to cite your wonderful map in my teaching materials. I teach world religions to 10th graders in Minnesota and this is a perfect map! I will be printing a book of readings and would like to include this one on page 79 I teach at Breck School. Here is a link to my WOrld Religions TED – Ed talk.

Feel free to use this image. If there is a reference in your talk just cite Lee Scharich. Thanks so much
